Put the decking price in writing before tear-off
This is the line that decides whether a roofing job ends friendly. State how many sheets are included and the price for each one after that. When you find soft decking, the owner already knows the cost, and you keep working instead of waiting on a phone call.
Measurements the owner can check
Give squares, pitch and the number of layers coming off. If you measured from an aerial report rather than on the roof, say so. Owners compare bids by squares, and a bid with no measurements looks like a guess.
Say which warranty is which
There are two: the manufacturer's warranty on the materials and your workmanship warranty on the install. Name both, with their length and what registration is needed. Clients mix them up, and a clear estimate saves the argument later.
Questions roofers ask
How long should a roofing quote be valid?
Thirty days is common. Shingle manufacturers raise prices at least once a year, so avoid longer windows unless you have locked material pricing.
What is the difference between a roofing estimate and a quote?
In practice they are often used the same way. A quote tends to mean a firm price. Whichever you call it, list what can change the price, like decking, so the number holds up.
