Electrical contractor software for the service call

Electrical contractor software here means the quote before you open the box, the invoice when the outlet works, and the payment. Not a dispatch board.

A dead outlet, written the way you bill it.

The kitchen GFCI is open, the homeowner is watching, and they want a number before you pull the device. You already know the shape of the ticket: a trip charge, the device if you have it on the truck, and the labor to land it.

You type those three lines yourself. This page does not set the trip charge, the device price, or the hourly rate. How to build a flat rate from your own costs is in how to price electrical work.

A permit fee is a line you type when you charge one. The app does not pull the permit. After the customer says yes, that sheet becomes the invoice without retyping it.

The paper versions are the electrical estimate template for a larger job, the electrical invoice template when the work is done, and the electrical quote template for a fixed price.

Electrical invoice software, on that call.

VanReceipts is an iPhone app for a solo electrician or a small crew. Classic invoices and estimates are free, with no cap. A blank estimate you type is free, and the AI draft needs Pro.

Pro is $14.99 a month or $99.99 a year, with a 3-day free trial on the yearly plan. The monthly plan has no trial.

The estimate

Cloud AI drafts lines you can edit. A blank Classic estimate is free. There is no price book.

The invoice

The estimate becomes the invoice in one tap. Send the PDF by text or email, with your logo, your colors, and a quote link.

The payment

One pay link and QR code into your own Stripe account. VanReceipts takes no cut. Stripe keeps its processing fee.

Skipped answers are stored as assumptions. Edit with AI is for an estimate that already has a line, not for an invoice. You keep the numbers.

With Pro and a connection, cloud AI reads the supply-house receipt: vendor, date, total, and every line. With no signal, the phone still reads vendor, date, and total. Nothing saves until you confirm the job.

The full list is on pricing. What the call made is in job costing for electricians. A wider list is on best apps for electricians.

What it does not do.

Service software in this trade often means a board that sends the next call. This app does not dispatch, and it has no scheduling board. It does not track the van with GPS, and it does not log miles in the background.

You pick From and To and the app works out the distance, or you type the miles. Location is used only when you ask to fill an address or the start of a trip.

It does not keep a price book, pull a permit, file a tax return, connect to QuickBooks, or pull a bank feed. It records the numbers. Export to CSV or Excel is the hand-off to your accountant.

There is no Android, web, or desktop app. Another iPhone uses the same Apple ID with iCloud sync. The quote here is the estimate in your hand, not a flat-rate book.

Jobber or Housecall Pro is the right buy when the pain is the board: who is on which call, and where the truck is. VanReceipts is the right buy when the pain is the ticket in your hand: the estimate, the invoice, and whether the call made money after the GFCI and the labor.

Questions from the truck

What is electrical contractor software?+

Electrical contractor software is the tool you run the business of a service call on: the quote, the invoice, the payment, and the record of what the call cost. Some products also dispatch trucks and keep a schedule. VanReceipts does the quote, the invoice, the payment, and the job record. It does not dispatch.

How much does electrical contractor software cost?+

VanReceipts Pro is $14.99 a month or $99.99 a year, with a 3-day free trial on the yearly plan. On October 16, 2026, Jobber Core for one user was $49 a month with no commitment, or $29 a month billed annually, and Housecall Pro Basic was $79 a month, or $59 a month billed annually. Those two also sell larger team plans. Check their pricing pages before you compare a crew of five.

What is the best electrical contractor software for a one-person shop?+

It depends on the pain. If you need a scheduling board and GPS, Jobber or Housecall Pro is built for that, at the prices in the table. If you need the estimate and the invoice on the iPhone, and you do not need dispatch, VanReceipts is the fit. There is no single winner for every shop.

Is there a free electrical estimating app?+

Invoices and estimates you write by hand are free, with no limit, on the Classic template, by Mail, Messages, print, or any share option. The AI estimate needs Pro. Pro also adds the other templates, quote and pay links, recording payments, receipts, mileage, and job profit.

Put the next call on the phone.

Classic invoices and estimates are free. Pro is $14.99 a month or $99.99 a year, with a 3-day free trial on the yearly plan.
