Material and labor on separate lines
Material is priced on the area plus waste (462 sq ft for a 420 sq ft room at 10 percent). Labor is priced on the installed area. Splitting them lets the client see why the material quantity is higher than the room, and lets them compare your price against a store's material-only quote.
The subfloor decides the job
Most click-lock flooring manufacturers publish a flatness tolerance, and installs that don't meet it can void the warranty. You won't know how much leveling a floor needs until the old flooring is up, so include an allowance and a per-bag price beyond it.
Things owners forget to ask about
Moving furniture, removing and resetting toilets, trimming doors, and transitions to other floors all take time. List what's included, and price what isn't.
Questions flooring installers ask
How much waste should a flooring estimate include?
Around 10 percent is common for plank in a simple room, more for diagonal layouts, many small rooms or patterned tile.
Should a flooring estimate include subfloor leveling?
Include an allowance, then a per-bag or per-hour price beyond it. You won't know the real amount until the old flooring is up.
