A construction quote template is a fixed offer
A construction quote template names the work and the price, then stops. The kitchen loaded above is $7,600 before tax: demo and haul-away $1,400, twelve cabinet boxes $3,200, laminate counters $1,800, a sink and faucet we supply $700, and reconnecting the plumbing where it already sits $500. There is no allowance column. If the client wants a different cabinet, that is a different quote.
The kitchen, the roof, the bathroom, the exterior paint job, and a blank sheet are the samples. The dollar amounts are round samples so the addition can be checked. They are not a price for the work, and they are not from a cost guide.
| Line | Amount |
|---|---|
| Demo and haul existing cabinets | $1,400 |
| Install 12 cabinet boxes, as listed | $3,200 |
| Plastic laminate counters, 40 sq ft | $1,800 |
| Stainless sink and faucet, supplied by us | $700 |
| Reconnect plumbing at the existing locations | $500 |
| Quote before tax | $7,600 |
The date on the sheet is the end of the offer. After that date, $7,600 is no longer the offer on this page. Acceptance is the signature line on the PDF, or a written reply that names this quote. A price that can still move when an allowance is exceeded is a different document: the construction estimate example.
What sits outside the $7,600
The kitchen notes leave out a dishwasher, appliances, flooring, and paint. Asking for a dishwasher after acceptance does not change the $7,600. Price that extra on the change order template. A sample change order of $650, written so the addition can be checked, would make a later contract total $8,250. That $650 is a sample, not a price for a dishwasher.
The roof button is a fixed $9,800: tear off one layer $1,800, 24 squares of architectural shingles $7,200, four pipe boots at $85 ($340), and a ridge vent $460. A second layer of shingles, rotten decking, and the permit are outside it. The bathroom button is a fixed $4,500: the tub swap $1,400, 60 square feet of board and tile $2,200, the specified valve and trim $650, and haul-away $250. Moving the drain is outside it.
The exterior paint button is $7,280: scrape, prime, and two coats on the body $5,400, trim and fascia $1,600, and one door $280. If that house was built before 1978, anyone paid to disturb the paint has to be certified under the EPA's Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule, and the workers have to be trained in lead-safe practices (read October 14, 2026).
Acceptance still needs the contract your state requires
In California, Business and Professions Code section 7159 (or read it on California Public Law) says a home improvement contract and any changes to the contract shall be in writing and signed by the parties before the work the contract or change order covers begins. For this section, that contract is an agreement whose aggregate price, including labor, services, and materials, exceeds $500 (read October 14, 2026). Section 7159.5 (or read it on California Public Law) says that if a down payment will be charged, it shall not exceed $1,000 or 10 percent of the contract amount, whichever is less, unless the contractor furnishes a performance and payment bond, a lien and completion bond, or a bond equivalent or joint control the registrar approves, covering full performance and payment. Ten percent of this sample's $7,600 is $760, and $760 is the smaller number, so a California contract on that sample could not take more than $760 up front unless that bond exception applies. This page is not legal advice. Other states write their own rules. A signed quote is the offer the contract is built from. It does not replace the notices that statute requires on the contract.
Bill the accepted scope on the construction invoice template. The general service version of this form is the quote template. How an estimate, a quote, and a bid commit you differently is in estimate vs quote vs bid. A price sent back against an invitation, with exclusions, alternates, unit prices, and a bid bond line on public work, is the construction bid template. When the client still has to choose how the job will be built, write that choice on the contractor proposal template: the approach, the schedule, and the option you recommend, with the other option in the notes. More forms are on the templates page.

Questions builders ask
What is a construction quote template?+
A construction quote template is a fixed price for a scope you write down, with a date the offer ends and a line for the client to accept it. The kitchen on this page is $7,600 before tax. A dishwasher is not on that list, so it is not in the $7,600. The dollars are samples so the math can be checked, not a price for the work.
What should a construction quote include?+
Your details, the client, the job address, each included item and quantity, the fixed total, what is left out, the date the offer ends, and a place for acceptance. After that date, the number on the sheet is no longer the offer.
Is an accepted construction quote a contract?+
The acceptance block records that the client agreed to the lines and the price on the quote. Whether that makes a binding contract depends on your state and your wording, so it is not a substitute for the contract your state requires. In California, Business and Professions Code section 7159 still requires a home improvement contract, and changes to it, in writing and signed before the covered work begins, when the aggregate price exceeds $500. Section 7159.5 caps a down payment at $1,000 or 10 percent of the contract amount, whichever is less, unless the contractor furnishes a performance and payment bond, or an approved bond equivalent or joint control, covering full performance and payment. On this $7,600 sample, 10 percent is $760, so that is the smaller cap. Other states differ. This is not legal advice.
Can I download a construction quote template as Word or Excel?+
Yes. The quote you fill in downloads as a PDF in three designs, and as a Word file and an Excel file.
