Painting quotation template

A painting quotation template is a fixed price for surfaces you name, with a date the offer ends and a line for the client to accept it. This one is two bedrooms and a hall, in one color that is already chosen. Switch to cabinets, ceilings, one commercial suite, or a blank sheet, and download it as a PDF, Word or Excel file.

Pick a starting quote. Switching replaces the line items and the notes. The dollar amounts are round samples so the math can be checked, not a price for the work.

A painting quotation for two bedrooms and a hall

A painting quotation template names the surfaces and the price, then stops. The sheet loaded above is two bedroom walls and a hall, two coats, in one color that is already chosen. Before tax it is $1,420: the bedrooms $960, the hall $280, and the paint we supply $180.

There is no allowance. Ceilings and trim are outside the $1,420. A color change after acceptance is a different quote. The dollar amounts are round samples so the addition can be checked. They are not a price for the work.

LineAmount
Bedroom walls, two rooms, two coats$960
Hall walls, two coats$280
Paint we supply, one color already chosen$180
Quote before tax$1,420

The date on the sheet is the end of the offer. After that date, $1,420 is no longer the offer. Acceptance is the signature line, or a written reply that names this quote. A deposit of $180, the paint line, is due when the offer is accepted. That deposit is a term of this offer. The balance on the sample is $1,240.

If the work disturbs paint in a pre-1978 home

The EPA's Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule requires that anyone paid to disturb painted surfaces in a home, childcare facility, or preschool built before 1978 be certified, and that the workers be trained in lead-safe practices (read October 15, 2026). The same page says a project in a pre-1978 home that has lead-based paint can create lead dust.

40 CFR 745.82 applies the rule to renovations performed for compensation in target housing and child-occupied facilities, except where a certified inspector, risk assessor, or renovator has determined that the affected components are free of lead-based paint (read October 15, 2026). 40 CFR 745.103 defines target housing as housing built before 1978, except housing for the elderly or persons with disabilities, and except a 0-bedroom dwelling, unless a child under 6 resides there or is expected to (read October 15, 2026).

40 CFR 745.83 defines minor repair and maintenance as work that disrupts 6 square feet or less of painted surface per room for interior activities, or 20 square feet or less of painted surface for exterior activities, where none of the work practices prohibited or restricted by section 745.85(a)(3) are used, and where the work does not involve window replacement or demolition of painted surface areas (read October 15, 2026). This sample is two coats on walls. If prep goes past that minor repair, and the components have not been determined free of lead-based paint, check 745.82 before you treat the job as outside the rule. This page is not legal advice.

Cabinets, ceilings, and one suite

The cabinet button is $1,796: 14 boxes sprayed with the doors off $1,100, 22 doors and drawer fronts at $28 ($616), and hardware put back $80. The color is the one named on the sheet.

Ceilings only are $800: 640 square feet at $1 a square foot is $640, plus $160 of ceiling paint. Walls are outside that price. The commercial suite is $1,300: one coat on 1,200 square feet of walls $900, and after-hours labor $400. Floors and the ceiling grid are outside it.

An exterior that prices scraping, a pressure wash, and rotted trim by the foot is the painting estimate template. The body, the trim, and one door, already fixed, are on the construction quote template. The rooms you have already painted are billed on the painting invoice template. More forms are on the templates page.

Where a home-improvement deposit rule applies

Where the work is a home improvement, California's writing rule and down payment cap are on the construction quote template. Other states write their own rules. The $180 deposit on this sample is a term of the offer. It is not a statement of that cap.

Questions painters ask

What is a painting quotation template?+

A painting quotation template is a fixed price for the surfaces you name, with a date the offer ends and a line for the client to accept it. Two bedrooms and a hall on this page are $1,420 before tax, including $180 of paint in a color already chosen. Ceilings and trim are not in that price. The dollars are samples so the math can be checked, not a price for the work.

What should a painting quote include?+

The rooms or surfaces, the number of coats, who supplies the paint, the color if it is already chosen, what is left out, any deposit, the date the offer ends, and a place for acceptance. On this sample the deposit is the $180 paint line.

Does painting a pre-1978 home need a certified firm?+

The EPA Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule requires certification and lead-safe training when someone is paid to disturb painted surfaces in a home, childcare facility, or preschool built before 1978. The same EPA page says a project in a pre-1978 home that has lead-based paint can create lead dust. 40 CFR 745.82 applies the rule to paid renovations in target housing and child-occupied facilities, except where a certified inspector, risk assessor, or renovator has determined the affected components are free of lead-based paint. Target housing, in 40 CFR 745.103, is housing built before 1978, except housing for the elderly or persons with disabilities, and except a 0-bedroom dwelling, unless a child under 6 resides there or is expected to. Minor repair, under 40 CFR 745.83, disrupts 6 square feet or less of painted surface per room inside, or 20 square feet or less outside, does not use practices prohibited or restricted by section 745.85(a)(3), and does not involve window replacement or demolition of painted surface areas. This is not legal advice.

Can I download a painting quotation template as Word or Excel?+

Yes. The quote you fill in downloads as a PDF in three designs, and as a Word file and an Excel file.
